XILS DeeS

De-Esser by XILS Lab

Images

Description

Your voice, his voice, her voice. Every voice is a treasure.

With the help of the XILS DeeS you can get rid of all the Voice recordings faults and problems in a flash, while preserving their unique, precious character.

Getting clean, professional vocals, dubbing recordings, restoring voices in all their beauty has never been so easy.

XILS DeeS in short:

  • Easy to use : Find the sweet spot in a flash and remove all unwanted signals. Just move the Frequency Knob and apply Reduction. No more sibilance.
  • Easy to understand : Clear Dual Signal path. Solo buttons for each channel ( Voice, Sibilants )
  • Visualise what you do : Instant Correlation between ears, eye and brain in a glance with the fast, precise 4 signals real time Frequency Graph ( Bottom of unit )
  • Easy to tweak : Go further and adapt the character of a voice to your project. Or make special effects and creative use of the DeeS

Only with the XILS DeeS:

  • Entirely Transparent: No filter sweep effect like with traditional similar tools.
  • Fast:  The detection can be applied as fast as it should be, resulting in lively, natural voices (No more lifeless voices).
  • Input independent detection: Retains the whole dynamic range of the incoming audio.
  • Simple: Sibilant and Voice Channels are clearly identified on each UI part: Knobs, Graphs share common color code.
  • Exclusive: Plosive detection for better recognition
  • Then go even further: Endless possibilities to change, adapt, or polish the character of voices with two independent EQing audio paths (Analog like 0-delay-feedback filters).

Wether you want to restore the quality of these emotional vocals that  you’ll never be able to record again, clean your own voice recordings for a blog, an institutional movie, or Video material, ensure your customers that your dubbing material will be totally flawless, turn an amateur announcer into a Veteran Speaker, adapt a voice to a project sonic or musical context, XILS DeeS will provide you the most professional results.

Quickly. And in an intuitive way.

Features

  • Once it enters into the DeeS, a signal is split into two independent channels (Detection Step): The Voice (Minus Sibilants) and the Sibilants Only.

  • Each channel has its own EQ.

  • The Detection module helps you to find the right Voice frequency range to process to remove the sibilants, and specify the quality (fastness) of the processing.

  • De-essing: The detection Module

  • Select the cutoff frequency between Voices and Sibilants, select the amount of reduction you want to apply, select the quality of the de=essing (how the result will be smoothed and slow or rough and fast), find the right spot for the plosives, allowing a better sibilant recognition et voilà!

  • The vumeter simply displays the detected sibilants.

  • Analog EQs to the rescue

  • The internal XILS DeeS algorithm allows to equalise with different settings the two split signals ( The voice, and the Sibilant ) : Each « Channel » has its own EQ.

  • This results in a transparent and versatile audio process!

  • Even better : The involved EQs, Low Pass 6 and 12db, Bell and High Shelf, has been developed to mimic analog behaviour in the hight frequency range (zero-delay filters) : The standard digital artefacts and latency  brought by the internal delay has been totally removed.

  • Furthermore, this simple organization is obvious to understand and to work with.

  • Simple structure, but not simple internal algorithm

  • A lot of attention has been put in the side-chain treatment (with or without latency), including a Plosive detection for a better sibilant recognition.

  • Fast and robust Sibilant detection, accurate level modulation, total independence from input level, were required in order to make this tool as transparent as possible.

  • You’ll notice that being independent from the input level is a big advantage, because the DeeS won’t work in a different way ( Over-compression, under-compression ) if the entering signal gain varies, which is the behaviour of most similar units, and will therefore retain all the dynamics and lively character of the original.

  • Sibilant Path :

  • Easy and obvious, you can select your filter type (Low Pass 6dB, Low Pass 12 dB, Bell, High-Shelf) and tweak the cutoff frequency, resonance (or emphasis) and Gain when applied. The Level knob allows you to reduce or increase the Sibilant audio path.

  • You can listen to your equalized sibilants by clicking on the SOLO button

  • Voice Path:

  • Almost the same than the Sibilant path, excepted that it has no specific level

  • You can listen to your equalized voices by clicking on the SOLO button.

  • The display allows you to "see" what happens in your audio track and simultaneously visualize the Voice and the Sibilant spectrum, as well as the curve and spectrum of the applied EQs

Weiss Deess

De-Esser by Softube

Images

Description

Softube Weiss Collection

Whether you’re trying to tame sibilance in a lead vocal, rein in a sharp-sounding hi-hat, or reduce harshness while mastering, a truly great de-esser is as elusive as it is essential. Enter the Weiss Deess, available as an individual plug-in or as part of the Weiss DS1-MK3 collection.

Most de-essers – even modern digital or plug-in units – lack versatility, user-friendliness, appropriate visualisation, or quite simply don’t work like you hope they will.

With a combination of the highly-prized sonics of the industry gold-standard Weiss DS1-MK3 – the go-to digital hardware de-essing unit used in top mastering studios the world over – and a totally modern and focused approach in design, Softube is psyched to announce the Weiss Deess Plug-in. Stop searching, start succeeding - this is the de-esser.

First of all, it has two completely independent bands. Most de-essers have one, but almost no sibilant has a single-frequency focus, especially when you’re dealing with complex material or mastering applications.

Secondly, it has a variety of filter shapes and excellent band-width control, allowing you to home in on precisely what you need to deal with, without collateral damage.

Thirdly, it has unparalleled visualizations. A large, colorful, and intuitive display shows FFT readouts as well as your filter shapes, so you can clearly see what effect you’re having on your signal.

Fourthly, the faceplate GUI is uncluttered, focusing on giving great visual information, but a side-menu allows control over everything. And we mean everything; ratios, attack and release times, knee settings, make-up gain and more.

Fifth; a low-latency mode allows you to de-ess in tracking, saving the tedium in the mix of what can often feel like a non-creative editing task. Nothing beats getting it right on the way in.

Lastly, and most importantly of all, the Weiss algorithms, code-ported from the gold-standard DS1-MK3 unit, provide the best sounding de-essing in the world. It does the job effectively and transparently, without hassle or artefact. Your work will sound better if you use this than it will if you don’t. It’s as simple as that.

In short

  • The best-sounding de-esser available, with code-ported algorithms from the industry standard DS1-MK3.
  • Two bands of de-essing. This is the only de-esser you’ll need.
  • Stunning and intuitive visualisations make this de-esser a breeze to use.
  • Clean tweak-and-go faceplate, with immensely detailed controls hidden in side-menu.
  • Ultra-professional tool, but without the daunting, complex look.
  • Low-latency mode allows you to de-ess while tracking a vocal.
  • All the versatility you need in terms of filter shapes, frequencies etc.

AVA De-Esser

De-Esser by Harrison Consoles

Description

AVA De-Esser

What is the AVA De-Esser?

The AVA De-Esser is the latest implementation of Harrison’s renowned De-Esser algorithm, used in ultra high-end post & film facilities worldwide.  Now in the fourth generation, the Harrison De-Esser algorithm has been continuously tweaked by our customers in high-end music,  film, broadcast, and video post-production.

Harrison’s reputation for “true analog in the box” sound is due to our unique development heritage, where we first created an analog processor and then converted the processor to digital while retaining the sound and character of the original.

The AVA De-Esser implements Harrison’s 4th-generation algorithm that is tuned to detect and eliminate harsh sibilance.

The results are quintessentially “Harrison”:  effortless, smooth and transparent.

Controls

Graph

The main display graph provides control of the De-Esser band frequencies and depths.

Drag the “S” or “H” controls to adjust the “Ess” or “Hi” band frequency and depth.

TIP: Click anywhere in the graph to simultaneously drag the band depths and center frequency.  You can also scroll to adjust the bandwidth. This is the fastest way to adjust the most important De-Esser Controls.

Input Meter, Threshold, and Ess meter

  • The “Threshold” slider for the effect is overlaid on the input (“In”) meter.
  • Lowering the threshold will increase the sensitivity of the de-esser effect.
  • The “Ess” meter indicates the signal level inside the ess band.  If the frequency band is set correctly for the source material, then this meter will peak when Essy material is present.

Ess Freq and Ess Depth Control - This section allows you to pick the low-frequency cutoff (200 Hz - 8kHz) for the Ess, and the max attenuation for the signal (-12dB - 0dB).

Hi Freq and Hi Depth Control - This section features a shelving unit to tame some of the higher frequency (2 kHz - 12 kHz) content after you’ve pulled out the ‘Ess’. Max attenuation for the shelf is -12dB.

Ess Center and Ess Width Control - The ‘Ess Center’ control allow you to adjust both the Ess Freq and Hi Freq controls together allowing you to move the entire Ess Band in unison. The ‘Ess Width’ control allows you to control how wide or narrow the Ess bandwidth is.

Attack - The ‘Attack’ knob controls how long it takes the signal to get from zero to full attenuation. (200μs - 20ms)

Auto Solo - Enabling ‘Auto Solo’ allows to you automatically audition your Ess Band as you change the parameters to really dial in the exact frequency and bandwidth of the Ess signal. Auto solo also works for auditioning the Hi Band when adjusting the Hi Freq control.

Features

  • Intelligent algorithm operates on harsh sibilance while ignoring other fricatives.
  • Band Solo and Auto-Solo features to help dial-in the sibilant frequency range.
  • Capable of up to 12dB reduction in sibilance.
  • Adjustable threshold & depth allow fine control over the processor’s onset and strength.
  • Fast and easy-to-use interface with 6 control dimensions accessible in the main graph.
  • Zero-latency processing, suitable for “live” use.
  • Gain-reduction meter appears on Pro Tools (AAX) and Studio One (VST3) mixer strip.
  • The “Ear” icon engages the momentary-bypass function, which allows you to audition the un-affected signal while you hold the mouse button; then restores the settings when you release the button.
  • The “Gear” icon launches a menu with additional features including resizing, theme selection, and plugin version number.
  • The alternative “Vintage” theme uses the colour scheme of Harrison’s large-format console software.

Oxford SuprEsser

De-Esser by Sonnox

Images

Description

The Oxford SuprEsser is both a very highly-featured professional De-Esser and a Dynamic EQ. There is a simple mode for quick fixes, but also an advanced mode for increased functionality and fine-tuning. The combination of an intuitive FFT display and three listen modes enables the user to easily see and hear exactly where the problem frequencies are, allowing the rapid reduction or removal of the offending audio. As well as being able to trigger the full band compression, only the offending frequencies can be carefully carved out. Since the SuprEsser can operate at all frequencies, ‘plosives’ and other annoyances can also be removed effortlessly, making it more than a simple De-Esser. Additional features include Automatic Level Tracking, Linear Phase Filtering and a Wet/Dry blend control for final balancing.

A new concept is born – a simple and intuitive De-Esser, PLUS access to a much more sophisticated frequency specific compressor, giving complete control over aggressive frequencies wherever they may be in the audio spectrum. With the Oxford SuprEsser, you can take out unwanted frequency peaks as and when they occur - unlike applying a fixed EQ to the whole channel.

As a De-Esser, the Oxford SuprEsser is designed for the treatment of sibilance and fricatives in vocals, and the treatment of unwanted whistles and 'spirant' artefacts associated with wind instruments. However, it can equally be applied to removing low-end 'plosives' and thuds from over-close vocal work, without affecting components nearby in the frequency spectrum, keeping the low-end in tact. For the most natural-sounding results, the SuprEsser de-esses only the frequency band you set - so you won't end up with an over-de-essed lisp-like voice with all the top end gone!

Detailed visual feedback is provided thanks to the highly intuitive graphical display, allowing quick identification of the frequencies that need treatment and where to set the threshold. The threshold level and peak hold levels of the user-definable band are shown on the graph, alongside the FFT display of the narrow band signal, which includes retention of the peak level and the frequency containing the most energy.

At the heart of the Oxford SuprEsser is an enhanced version of the compressor section of the Oxford Dynamics plug-in, which is renowned amongst professional users for delivering precise and transparent control of peaks. Around this is built a pair of cross-over filters to make the compressor react only to the defined frequency band. These linear phase filters are modelled on the filters from the Oxford EQ, making the SuprEsser useful for precise mastering work as well as mixing work.

Three listen modes allow the user to listen to the mix, the output of the band-pass filter ('Inside') or the output of the band-reject filter ('Outside').

Careful thought has been put into making the Oxford SuprEsser extremely easy and quick to use. The screenshot above shows the plug-in as it appears when first activated. Once the frequency band has been defined, simply lower the threshold fader until the gain reduction meter starts to kick in. The plug-in then automatically tracks the general signal level and the threshold follows accordingly so that it gives the same relative amount of gain reduction as the signal level rises or falls. This is perfect for vocals where, for example, a vocalist is louder in the chorus than the verse, but you want to apply the same relative amount of de-essing, and not over de-ess in the chorus. This Auto Level Tracking mode lets the SuprEsser do all the hard work. It can also be switched off for a fixed threshold.

Pressing the 'More' button gives access to ALL the controls.

In its default mode of operation, the Oxford SuprEsser feeds the defined 'Band' signal to the compressor to affect only this narrow band signal. The result is that the compressor reacts only to specific frequency components when they reach a specific threshold, and applies compression only to these specific frequency components, leaving the rest of the spectrum untouched. 'Wide' can also be selected to allow full-band compression reacting to only specific frequencies or any combination of Band and Wide defining 'when the compressor reacts' and 'what it compresses' (narrow or wide/full-band).

The Oxford SuprEsser comes complete with many presets to act as good starting points, alternatively, the advanced section gives full access to all controls for precise correction or even creative use.
