Cassette Keys.01 for Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Images

Description

The Idea & Process

It's a unique mixture of physical modelling and fm synths recorded on a cassette with an old & wonky cassette recorder. It has a range from C0 to E6 and 4 carefully designed velocity layers. The GUI is very simple (Kontakt version), yet useful and almost synth-like - so just like its predecessor Cassette Piano, it’s very easy and fun to work with.

Every note of this instrument has been carefully de-noised with a high quality algorithm to avoid noise stacking when playing more than one note. Noise can still be added with the noise slider - it’s much more flexible this way and allows the ability to adjust the volume of the noise independently whilst also applying parameters such as filtering. It also creates a more realistic sound, so when playing a five voice chord, only one sample of noise instead of five stacked on top of each other will be heard.

The End Result

Useful and Fun Production Tool:
If you like vintage sounds and you're looking for something to enhance your production toolbox, then this product will be for you.

Simple, One Page Interface:
Everything is laid out on one page allowing fast sound design possibilities.

Simulated Round Robin:
Makes notes sound realistic when played ostinato (even when playing fast).

Variety of Sounds:
With this instrument you can easily create some weird sounds.

Features:

  • 848 MB of samples (366 MB after lossless Live compression)
  • Editable 'Sample Start' parameter
  • REV (reverse) mode
  • 4 velocity layers
  • 30 Instrument Racks (presets) with mapped macros

Cassette Vibraphone for Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Images

Description

The Idea & Process

Cassette Vibraphone is the first instrument in cassette series recorded with real round-robin samples - every note in every dynamic layer was recorded 4 times. Cassette Vibraphone was recorded in full range (3 octaves) with 4 dynamic layers using 4 different cassette decks. Overall there are 2372 samples - 592 samples per deck, plus 4 noise samples from each deck (6,76 GB of uncompressed 24-bit WAV files).

Every note has been carefully denoised with a high quality algorithm to avoid noise stacking when playing more than one note (there’s still some noise left in the samples to avoid denonising artifacts). Noise can still be added with the noise knob - it’s much more flexible this way and allows the ability to adjust the volume of the noise independently whilst also applying parameters such as filtering. It also creates a more realistic sound, so when playing a five voice chord, only one sample of noise instead of five stacked on top of each other will be heard.

  • Full version of Live 9.7 (or higher) required
  • Real round-robin
  • 73 Instrument Racks: 40 basic + 33 additional presets (both with mapped macros)
  • Custom Effect Racks

Cassette Keys.02 for Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Images

Description

The Idea & Process

Cassette Keys.02, a successor of Cassette Keys.01, wasn't created to replace it, but rather to make things different, bigger, and to make use of the new .02 interface. In fact, both of those instruments complement each other very well. Cassette Keys.02 contains two instruments, both inspired by classic FM keys from the 80s, but expanded with other synthesis techniques plus even a little sampling to achieve interesting transient sounds.

Each instrument contains 5 dynamic layers and was recorded with 3 different cassette decks. Overall, there are 2193 samples - 365 samples per deck, plus 3 noise samples from each deck (5,73 GB of uncompressed 24-bit WAV files).

The End Result

  • Useful and Fun Production Tool: If you like vintage sounds and you're looking for something to enhance your production toolbox, then this product will be for you.
  • Variety of Sounds: Aside from the sound of a cassette record with this instrument you can easily create some weird sounds and there are already quite a few presets included to get you started (Kontakt & Ableton Live versions only).

Cassette Piano.02 Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Images

Description

The Idea & Process

One of the main improvements of Cassette Piano.02 is a completely new set of samples of an (not so perfect) old upright piano recorded in a ballet training room (in both stereo and mono, with mics at the back of the piano) which resulted in surprisingly organic and tasty sound with all kinds of little imperfections. In order to make the best use of those recordings, and to further expand the sound capabilities of the instrument, four different decks were used to process the samples.

  • Deck A STEREO - the highest quality, very low pitch instability, plus it was recorded in stereo
  • Deck A MONO - the same quality as the one above but recorded in mono
  • Deck B MONO - the same one used in previous instruments (Cassette Piano, Cassette Keys.01, Cassette Mallets.01), slightly loose drive belt introduces a lot of pitch instability (sounds great when transposed down)
  • Deck C MONO - the noisiest deck of all with medium amount of pitch instability
  • Deck D MONO - similar to deck A but with more instability in pitch and overall sound

In addition, there are also features you may already know from previous instruments in this series, such as the sample start knob (controlled with the GUI or Mod Wheel) which allows you to control initial transients while designing your sound. Moreover, because of the fact that this kind of instruments sounds great when transposed down (it really adds to the overall ‘lofiness’ of the sound) there’s an octave down switch in the GUI now.

And as the last thing - there’s now also a simple 2 band equaliser (Instrument Tone) located at the bottom of the GUI.

The End Result

Useful and fun production tool - If you like vintage sounds and you're looking for something to enhance your production toolbox, then this product will be for you.

Simulated Round Robin - Makes faster note passages sound more realistic and adds to the overall nonlinearity of the instrument - check out the introduction video to hear it in action.

Variety of sounds - Aside from the sound of a cassette record with this instrument you can easily create some weird sounds and there are already quite a few presets included to get you started (Kontakt & Ableton Live versions only).

Main Features

  • Available in multiple popular formats: SFZ ,Kontakt 5, Ableton Live 9, Logic (Each sold separately or within a Multiformat bundle)

Ableton Chord Rack - Deep House & Jazz Chords

Ableton Racks by Loopmasters

Images

Description

Important note: Ableton Suite 9.7+ is required to run this software.

Deep House & Jazz Chords is an exclusive Ableton Live MIDI effect rack from Loopmasters that has been specifically designed for House producers hunting that perfect chord sequence. The instrument rack loads straight into your Ableton Live session and features fully mapped macros to change chord sets, add random note velocity, change the root note and add arpeggios.

The Rack has been designed and created to help you play complex “jazzy” or “deep” chord progressions with ease, or play single chords across the entire keyboard range. The chords have been cherry picked for Deep House producers but will work great on any Deep and Jazzy production including Drum and Bass, House, Dub Techno and more. As this is a MIDI effect Rack you need to remember to add your own software instrument to the chain to be able to make any sound, but the live pack does include a Live set with a version of the racks pre-loaded with Ableton’s Electric (Piano) plugin to get you started.

This Live Pack utilizes 2 different Chord Racks the first being the Progressions Rack which features pre-mapped complimentary chords which can be performed by playing keys ranging from C2 - G2 on your keyboard. The first Macro control allows you to scroll through different chord sets. The Second Rack is the Single Chord Rack where one chord is mapped fully across the key range simulating the classic Roland Juno, Chord Memory function used so much in early House music. Again the First Macro will scroll through different chord options.

Both the “progressions” and “single chords” devices can be set to trigger any plugin or external hardware device of your choice. Simply load up a plugin or external instrument in your session and set the input to come from the chord device and you are off and running!

Deep House & Jazz Chords provides a unique and inspiring way to quickly develop lush chords for your productions.

Cassette Mallets.01 for Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Description

The Idea & Process

Cassette Mallets.01 is a collection of 3 bell / mallet instruments recorded on a cassette with an old & wonky recorder. Every instrument from this library is a mixture of physical modeling & fm synthesis with a range of E2 to E6 and 3 velocity layers which were designed from the ground-up for good playability range.

The GUI is very simple, yet useful and almost synth-like, so it’s very easy and fun to work with. Every instrument has editable “sample start” parameter (controlled with the GUI or Mod Wheel), so you could easily get rid of the initial transients while designing your sound. Moreover, because of the fact that this kind of instruments sounds great when transposed down there’s an “-12” switch added to the GUI which transposes every instrument down by octave.

Every note has been carefully denoised with a high quality algorithm to avoid noise stacking when playing more than one note. Noise can still be added with the noise slider - it’s much more flexible this way and allows the ability to adjust the volume of the noise independently whilst also applying parameters such as filtering. Cassette Plucks.01 for Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Images

Description

The Idea & Process

Cassette Plucks.01 is a mixture of physical modelling, some subtractive synthesis and sampling. It contains two different pluck instruments with an oriental vibe - both designed from the ground up. Because of all the care that was put into the making of every layer and the magic touch of old cassette recorders, Cassette Plucks.01 is another lo-fi & tasty sounding collection.

Both instruments were recorded in the range of 5 octaves, with 4 dynamic layers using 2 different cassette decks. Overall there are 979 samples - 244 samples per deck, plus 2 noise samples from each deck (1,32 GB of uncompressed 24-bit WAV files).

Every note has been carefully denoised with a high-quality algorithm to avoid noise stacking when playing more than one note (there’s still some noise left in the samples to avoid denoising artefacts). Cassette Toy Piano for Ableton

Ableton Racks by THEPHONOLOOP

Images

Description

The Idea & Process

Cassette Toy Piano is a collection of 5 instruments based on a children toy piano. First of the five included instruments is of course just a raw toy piano recorded on a cassette and while it is a nice and useful sound most toy pianos are very… imperfect in their nature. Because of that, the main aim for this collection was to create additional variations of the raw sound to embrace what’s good in it (with things like spring reverb, granular synthesis, etc.) without losing its original (and sometimes) creepy sound.

So to sum everything up - Cassette Toy Piano is a collection of 5 instruments recorded with 3 dynamic layers using 2 different cassette decks (one with a more neutral sound and the other with a much more lo-fi and degraded sound). Overall there are 1112 samples - 111 samples per deck, plus 2 noise samples from each deck (1,71 GB of uncompressed 24-bit WAV files).

Every note has been carefully denoised with a high-quality algorithm to avoid noise stacking when playing more than one note (there’s still some noise left in the samples to avoid denoising artifacts). Noise can still be added with the noise knob - it’s much more flexible this way and allows the ability to adjust the volume of the noise independently whilst also applying parameters such as filtering. It also creates a more realistic sound, so when playing a five-voice chord, only one sample of noise instead of five stacked on top of each other will be heard.

Ableton Chord Rack - Blue Notes & Borrowed Chords

Ableton Racks by Loopmasters

Images

Description

Important note: Ableton Suite 9.7+ is required to run this software.

Blue Notes & Borrowed Chords is an exclusive Ableton Live 9+ MIDI effect rack from Loopmasters that has been specifically designed for producers hunting that perfect chord sequence. The instrument rack loads straight into your Ableton Live session and features fully mapped macros to change chord sets, add random note velocity, change the root note and add arpeggios.

Blue Notes & Borrowed Chords is a complete standalone MIDI effect rack that expands upon the existing chord sets in our best-selling Deep House & Jazz Chords Ableton Chord Rack. The brand new set of chord progressions in Blue Notes & Borrowed chords utilise the Jazz and Blues technique of implementing blue notes in the chords.

These are not your run of the mill chord progressions. Combinations that only a trained musician might create result in unique sounding chord combinations. The inclusion of “blue” or “worried” notes - a technique often employed in both Jazz and Blues - ads even more unique expression. (Blue notes are played at a slightly different pitch than standard. Typically the alteration is between a quarter tone & a semitone.)

As a result of the use of this technique in these sets, you will find that they are not always EXACTLY tuned. This sounds GREAT, and will give your music a classic Jazz/Blues influenced vibe. The early pioneers of House and Hip Hop sampled these types of chords, and now you’ve got tons of them at your fingertips ready to play straight or resample.

For your convenience, we have listed the chords of each chord set. When a set includes the very heavy use of blue notes, we have included an asterisk before the first chord in the set. If you are curious about exactly what notes are being played, you can simply output the MIDI from the rack. This is a great way to develop complimentary bass lines or melodies for your chords.

Blue Notes & Borrowed Chords includes the same macro mappings and functionality as our Deep House & Jazz Chords rack. Have fun playing with note timing and velocity for even more unique expression, arpeggiate your chords and more.
