The Tube Heart

STA (Summing Tube Amplifier) uses two signal paths, one is processed by modulation or spectral change and the other is not processed. These two signals are mixed on a vacuum tube. That gives “ordinary” effects like Flanger or Phaser, really unique and warm character. The valve saturation colour depends on the Mode selection. Changing the type of the tube circuit, affects the tube working point and frequency response.

• P - Presence – the higher amount of mid-high frequencies allows better cutting through the mix. 
• V - Vintage – has smoother highs and more even harmonics. 
• B - Brown – has almost flat response with only light high frequencies roll off and nice higher harmonics punch. 
• W - White – has higher amount of higher frequencies and the ratio between the even and odd harmonics is balanced. 
• L - LoFi – contains less low and high frequencies. 
• We are making our plugins as real as possible with all the natural analog feeling and side effects.

What it Does

MixChecker functions are divided into two sections. The Simulation offers acoustic models of several consumer devices and classic reference monitors. Pressing a single button will turn your monitors into the selected device. 

Not all studio monitors deliver flat frequency response. Therefore we also added the Compensation section. It will allow you to tell MixChecker, you are using average 5" or 8" speakers or headphones. That will change the resulting sound accordingly.

The Bypass button turns all processing off. When illuminated, only clean signal comes through MixChecker. 

How We Do It

We measured the frequency responses and behaviour of all the devices listed in MixChecker in laboratory conditions to create their true and faithful models that you can rely on.

Some situations do not give you enough time to play around with your compressors, EQs and other effects to achieve great sounding voice-over or vocal. The solution is Audified TNT Voice Executor all-in-one voice plug in, that helps to solve all the issues within a second.

The owner of the TNT Recording and Postproduction Studios, Tomas Trkal, is a mixing engineer and a programmer in one person: In some situations and jobs you have to mix vocals or spoken word very quickly. Typically it is in broadcast operation or video production. We couldn't find find any plug-in that would suit this purpose well. So I had to create it myself...

What It Does

TNT Voice Executor is a unique plug-in that offers quick and intuitive voice tracks editing. Despite the easy look, there are multiple effect modules inside the tool. The plug-in contains complete dynamics controls and EQ, drive and delay. The modules settings are pre-set by TNT Studios. The effect is controlled by three knobs only. After loading the preset you only set up the input and output volumes and the effect amount. And off you go.

The Presets and Controls

TNT Voice Executor takes in consideration various possible applications. No matter if you mix singing, rap or spoken word, the effects gives you quick and perfect results. 

The presets in the first version are gathered in four groups. Each of them contains several variants for both male and female voices. All you have to do is to set the desired input and output volumes (using the I/O meters), choose the preset and tweak the amount of effect that will be applied. The right side of the plug-in shows, which effects are engaged and how much gain is being reduced. To keep the simplicity of use, no other controls (except advanced calibration in the service menu) are included.

U73b Compressor V2

Faithful and unique emulation of an old German broadcast compressor/limiter unit U73b. Second generation of the famous plug-in.

The device was often used for mastering between 1960 and 1980. It is an all tube vary-mu compressor/limiter with adjustable release time option. We kept the circuit exactly as it was originally designed and only added input and output gain (before and right after compressor circuit) to help with proper adjustment of the compression. The plugin effect has been also supplemented with a VU meter and selectable side-chaining. U73b is great for mastering, mixing drums, bass, guitar, vocals and voice overs.

Why did we model this unit?

Here’s the deal. It seems like everybody is modeling hardware these days, but we wanted to do something a little different. We didn’t want to model any hardware units that have been done a million times. We wanted to do something that had never been done before but has been an icon in the recording industry, and the only way to do that was to team up with producer/mixer David Bendeth. He just happened to have a few of these in his rack, so he sent us one to pore over.

Unless you stopped listening to music after “Johnny B Goode” then you have most definitely heard this hardware unit many many times. Think of Led Zeppelin drums.

In order to get this same compressor in hardware, not only would you have to pay over $2,000 to get one, but you’d have to deal with all the other drawbacks of using analog hardware. For a very small fraction of the price, you can get that same sound in the much more convenient software format. There are really no downsides (unless you live in Alaska an need a room heater).

A few extra features

Since we weren’t bound by the limits of the analog hardware, we took the liberty of adding a couple features that make this even more powerful than the original hardware. For one, we added a “Dry Passthrough” knob that makes parallel compression super easy, without having to set up extra buses.

+10db Equaliser

+10db Equaliser is meticulously modelled after the EQ section of a very highly sought after hardware channel strip.

+10db Equaliser takes the EQ section from our +10db Channel strip plugin and puts it in a dedicated plugin. This plugin faithfully recreates the curves and subtleties of this hardware equaliser unit.

What is so special about this EQ?

This EQ takes a different approach to equalization than your standard digital EQ. Instead of the standard series configuration, this EQ uses a parallel configuration, which makes for some very interesting effects, especially for bands that are close together. You will notice that you can use more extreme boost and cut settings without going into that harsh realm.

And of course, in order to preserve the spectral integrity of analog filters, we do not do any of the digital pre-warping tricks. Instead, each filter has a nice symmetric frequency response all the way up to Nyquist frequency, giving it a much more natural and musical response in the high frequencies.

The layout of this EQ makes you work with a different part of your brain than the standard parametric EQ. Don’t get us wrong, we love parametric EQs too, but working with this EQ definitely opens up the creative side of our brain, which can open up entirely new creative possibilities.

SphereQuad

The concept behind SphereQuad is a combination of stereo flanger, phaser and chorus effects fed into a stereo filter, combined with an onboard step sequencer that controls the filter. However, the execution of these effects is far more interesting as you can control the left and right filters independently to push sound around the stereo field. The flexible routing between the different modules can be quickly dialed in to create a huge variety of special effects.

Each of the Flanger, Phaser and Chorus modules has multiple parameters for adjusting the main characteristics. The modules can be activated individually, or mixed and routed in various combinations to create a wall of unusual effects.

+10db is the first of it’s kind channel strip plugin. This plugin is modelled after a very highly sought after compressor hardware unit. We didn’t just use the hardware unit for inspiration, we dug in deep and made sure that it sounded just like the original

Why did we model this unit?

Here’s the deal. It seems like everybody is modeling hardware these days, but we wanted to do something a little different. We didn’t want to model any hardware units that have been done a million times. We wanted to do something that had never been done before but has been an icon in the recording industry, and the only way to do that was to team up with producer/mixer David Bendeth. He just happened to have a few of these in his rack, so he sent us one to pore over.

Unless you stopped listening to music after “Johnny B Goode” then you have most definitely heard this hardware unit many many times. Think of Led Zeppelin drums.

In order to get this same compressor in hardware, not only would you have to pay over $2,000 to get one, but you’d have to deal with all the other drawbacks of using analog hardware. For a very small fraction of the price, you can get that same sound in the much more convenient software format. There are really no downsides (unless you live in Alaska an need a room heater).

A few extra features

Since we weren’t bound by the limits of the analog hardware, we took the liberty of adding a couple features that make this even more powerful than the original hardware. For one, we added a “Dry Passthrough” knob that makes parallel compression super easy, without having to set up extra buses.

 +10db Compressor

+10db Compressor is meticulously modelled after one of the industries most iconic hardware compressors. Unless you refuse to listen to any music after Beethoven, you most certainly have heard this unit in action. Best yet, this is the first time this hardware unit has been available in plugin format.

+10db Compressor is the first of it’s kind channel strip plugin. This plugin is modelled after a very highly sought after compressor hardware unit. We didn’t just use the hardware unit for inspiration, we dug in deep and made sure that it sounded just like the original.

+10db Equaliser

+10db Equaliser is meticulously modelled after the EQ section of a very highly sought after hardware channel strip.

+10db Equaliser takes the EQ section from our +10db Channel strip plugin and puts it in a dedicated plugin. This plugin faithfully recreates the curves and subtleties of this hardware equaliser unit.

What is so special about this EQ?

This EQ takes a different approach to equalization than your standard digital EQ. Instead of the standard series configuration, this EQ uses a parallel configuration, which makes for some very interesting effects, especially for bands that are close together. You will notice that you can use more extreme boost and cut settings without going into that harsh realm.

And of course, in order to preserve the spectral integrity of analog filters, we do not do any of the digital pre-warping tricks. Instead, each filter has a nice symmetric frequency response all the way up to Nyquist frequency, giving it a much more natural and musical response in the high frequencies.

The layout of this EQ makes you work with a different part of your brain than the standard parametric EQ. Don’t get us wrong, we love parametric EQs too, but working with this EQ definitely opens up the creative side of our brain, which can open up entirely new creative possibilities.

The Hoser XT

The second in the series of David Bendeth signature plugins. Modeled off of a Ward-Beck Systems M462B hardware EQ unit, The Hoser XT makes a great channel EQ to give that cohesive feel to your mixes.

The Hoser XT takes advantage of some of the benefits of working in the digital domain, all while staying true to the analog sound. It is really the best of both worlds.

Analog Sound – CPU Friendly

When we built The Hoser XT, we had two objectives:

• It must sound just like the hardware
• You should be able to use this plugin on every track without worrying about your CPU overheating.

After much trial and error, we finally accomplished this. The plugin stays true to the analog sound, allowing you to add extreme amounts of gain without adding the harshness of digital EQ. It does all this while using small amounts of processing power, to preserve your CPU for other plugins. It’s really the best of both worlds.

3 Channel Modes

While we were using the hardware, we couldn’t help but wish that we could use it in a mid/side configuration. It was just begging for it. So what was stopping us from making the plugin work in mid/side mode? Nothing, that’s what.

You can also process your left and right channels separately, which is a great way to add some stereo width to a mono track, or match the tone of a stereo source.

The Hoser

The Hoser is the little brother to The Hoser XT. Same algorithm in a compact stereo/mono only format.

The second in the series of David Bendeth signature plugins. Modelled off of a vintage Canadian hardware EQ unit, The Hoser makes a great channel channel EQ to give that cohesive feel to your mixes.
