ML8000 Advanced Limiter HD

Limiter by McDSP

Images

Description

Note: This product is the HD version. You can purchase the Native version HERE.

The ML8000 Advanced Limiter is the next generation of limiter technology, using two completely separate stages of processing for significantly improved peak level adjustment.

The first stage of the ML8000, the Multi-band Limiter, uses 8 bands of active processing for superior phase response over traditional cross-over based processing. Each band has its own gain and threshold (output ceiling) control. Additional overall band controls include release time and limiter modes, calibrated similarly to the modes of the original highly acclaimed McDSP ML4000 limiter. An additional focus mode provides subtle articulation changes in how each band tracks and limits the incoming signal.

The second stage of the ML8000, the Master Limiter, is a precise recreation of the patented ML4000 limiter algorithm, right down to the limiter modes. The Master Limiter also includes filter design enhancements to further reduce peak distortion.

The ML8000 8-bands of processing are easily controlled from the response plot, large gain faders beneath, and convenient threshold markers aligned to each band’s input meter. Text readouts can be adjusted from the keyboard, or controlled with mouse movement. Any number of bands can be linked to another band, and each band can be solo’ed or have its key input monitored.

Visual feedback, multiple metering sources, and an intuitive user interface make the ML8000 an easy choice for the audio professional.

Boost

Limiter by UrsaDSP

Images

Description

Pro Dynamics With An Upward Focus

Boost is an ultra-low distortion, upwards limiter from UrsaDSP.

Its revolutionary design gives you new ways to control dynamics without forcing you to accept distortion.

Use it on tracks, groups and your master bus to increase levels, reveal hidden details with upward limiting or improve your stereo image with the mid-side mode.

Features

  • Ultra-low distortion – incredibly transparent
  • Prevent inter-sample overs
  • Focus smoothly changes from upward to brick-wall limiting
  • Stereo image manipulation with the mid-side mode
  • Drive and emphasis modes for character
  • Preserve reverb tails with the max gain control.
  • Parallel compression
  • Precise Control for Loudness and Peak Levels

  • With Boost, unlike other limiters, you’re not forced to smother your mix in character just to get it loud. Boost’s unique Trajectory Technology keeps your audio clean and distortion-free.

  • Or if you need character, use the Emphasis control to enhance the psychoacoustic loudness of transients without increasing the peak level. So for the first time, you can control perceived loudness and peak level independently.

  • Eliminate Clipping with True Peak Control

  • No matter how much gain reduction you apply you’ll never get any clipping.

  • Boost can even eliminate inter-sample overs. These cause DACs to distort, create artefacts during compression and unexpectedly trigger loudness restrictions on streaming platforms. The clarity true-peak detector removes inter-sample overs whilst maintaining boost’s hallmark super low distortion without changing the sound of your mix.

  • Trajectory and the Future of Dynamics

  • Despite the invention of DSP, most plugin compressors mimic technology from 60 years ago.

  • Some plugins have added lookahead, but still use the same basic principles with all their limitations, distorting the transients as they react.

  • Trajectory goes back to the original requirement - controlling audio level - and uses fresh techniques that are only possible with modern digital signal processing. Instead of forever playing catchup when the audio hits a transient, Trajectory is already allowing for it and plotting the right curve to gracefully and musically process your audio.

  • With Boost, you can separate volume from distortion. For the first time, you’re not forced to smother your mix in character just to get it to broadcast standard levels, leaving you free to choose how your music will sound.

NEVO

Limiter by SoundSpot

Images

Description

NEVO is SoundSpot’s new monster clipper, which has been developed by SoundSpot's in house audio wizards to give you the ultimate peak control when either mastering audio, or enhancing your virtual instruments or hardware instruments.

NEVO is no ordinary clipper, there are a wealth of features and controls that will leave you in awe of its sonic ability, whilst at the same time being easy to use and totally inspirational.

NEVO features a combination of a 16-band soft clipper and a single-band hard clipper, along with multiple colouration settings, a transient shaper and a final clip wall limiter. All of these features have been arranged into a specific signal flow which has been meticulously designed and tested so you can get the very best sound from your instruments, groups, mixes and masters.

With an infectious workflow and instant results, NEVO is the plugin you’ve always needed in your arsenal of audio production plugins.

NEVO is a feature-rich powerhouse of a plugin, that sounds as good as it looks.

Features

  • Drive - This function allows you to transition from light tape drive to hard tube drive when raising and lowering the % control. 0 - 50% will give you a tape-style drive. 50 - 100% will then give you a tube style drive
  • Curve - Adjusting this will allow you to transition through the clipping of the low and high end of your sound. Moving this control from Left to right will increase the effect on the high end, and then move Right to Left to increase the effect on the low end. Curve works by tilting the bias between high and low, whilst also lightly removing frequencies at the same time.
  • Smooth - The Smooth control works by increasing the release on the 16 clipping bands, whilst also smoothing out the effect of the Drive distortion.
  • Crush - This function allows you to dial in a Bit Crushing effect, which in turn provides control of how much sonic destruction is required for your signal. You will find that the Breach function will also affect this by softening the Crush strength when moving the dial from 0 to 100%.
  • Breach - Using this function will allow you to control the amount of transients you may want to pass through the clipper control of your signal.
  • Soften - This is like a smoothing function, but will only affect the single band of the hard clipper. Soften works in two ways: 1, When Breach is at Zero, it will soften the Crush effect. 2, When Breach is at 1 - 100%, it will give you a fatter sound whilst retaining the transients that Breach has allowed to pass.
  • Colouration - This control enables you to add three variations of colour to your sound. These options are, WARM, TRANSPARENT and BRIGHT.
  • Transient Emphasis - This option gives you three types of transient emphasis in either the LOW, MID or HIGH frequencies.
  • Clip Wall - This is a final brick-wall limiter that also allows for your signal to be aggressively PULLED/SQUASHED to extremes.
  • Waveform Display, Soft / Hard Clipper Mix Controls & Signal Level Ring - This central display gives you visual feedback details on the effect NEVO is having on your sound. Effects like the amount of transient being allowed back through the clipper control. The controls which are situated to the left and Right of the Waveform Display Window are mix controls for the soft and hard clippers. Left mix control is for the soft clipper, and Right mix control is for the hard clipper. The Waveform Display Window has a coloured ring/glow surrounding it that measures the amount of gain reduction generated by the clippers and end Clip Wall Limiter. If you are reaching extreme signal levels, it will abruptly turn Red. If you then reach acceptable levels, the ring will fall back to Blue.

Chandler Limited® Zener Limiter

Limiter by Softube

Images

Description

A British classic, reincarnated.

Descended from the iconic limiters of Abbey Road Studios, the Chandler Limited® Zener Limiter is a legend in its own right. With the vibe of the vintage hardware used to capture Pink Floyd and The Beatles running through its veins, the Zener Limiter is a rock and roll blueblood—with an appealingly modern streak.

In collaboration with Chandler Limited®, Softube proudly continue the legacy with the Zener Limiter plug-in. A true emulation of its forebearer, christened by Chandler Limited’s Wade Goeke himself, the Zener Limiter plug-in is a versatile, state-of-the-art limiter and compressor that stays true to its illustrious sonic roots.

Legendary Lineage

Blessed by Chandler Limited® founder, Wade Goeke, the Zener Limiter plug-in embodies the heritage of the limiters that recorded Pink Floyd and The Beatles. That’s why Softube made sure that their apple fell close to the tree.

Golden Child

Add understated, vintage vibes to a track or thoroughly transform the tone, character, and transient behaviour of a drum bus or room mic channels. The Zener Limiter plug-in is the most versatile member of your studio family.

Breaking the Mold

Input stage with variable impedance, THD mode, the different comp modes, the rare form of the attack and release—the exclusive features of the Zener Limiter plug-in make it a compressor without a twin.

Inherited Wealth

The Chandler Limited® Zener Limiter is a rare breed. The construction and functionality are unique compared to other popular compressors. Like the legendary Abbey Road limiters, the Zener Limiter’s circuit employs zener diodes, which are notoriously challenging to employ. Softube expertly emulated the Zener Limiter’s entire circuit—including transformers, circuit nonlinearities, and germanium transistors. A painstaking, yet thoroughly satisfying endeavour, because this speedy, colourful limiter has personality to spare.

Dominant Traits

The input stage with variable impedance, the THD mode and the uncommon way it distorts when pushing the level. The Zener Limiter plug-in is truly one-of-a-kind. With the Input Gain toggle, you can drive the signal for more or less distortion, while the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) toggle disengages the limiter’s threshold. The effect is a smooth, pleasing distortion that features a high-frequency bump caused by the discrete amplifiers and zener diode limiting circuit. This plug-in simply has no peer.

Compression Reborn

When it comes to tailoring the overall tone of the Zener Limiter, the Comp 1/Comp 2/Limit switch couldn’t be more critical. Both Comp 1 and Limit were originally designed to emulate the compressors of Abbey Road Studios, while Comp 2 gives a more modern response. While the Comp 1 is a 2:1 ratio with slower time constants and the Limit is super quick, Comp 2 places the limiter in the middle, giving you the compression curve of Comp 1 with the faster release of Limit.

The Second Coming

The Softube + Chandler Limited® Zener Limiter is truly its father’s son. But, like every good son, the plug-in strives to accomplish just that much more. The Zener Limiter plug-in has features you won’t find on dear old dad, like Mid/Side processing, External Sidechain, and Link Channels. Link the left and right channels in stereo mode, and the Mid and Side in Mid/Side Mode or use the External Sidechain to total change the behaviour of the compressor and its parameters by including an external sound source as a sidechain. The special attributes of the Zener Limited plug-in give you unprecedented control.

Features

  • Expertly emulated and fully-endorsed by the creator of the original hardware, Wade Goeke
  • The vintage vibe of the equipment used to record The Beatles and Pink Floyd
  • Now available in native format
  • Superb versatility that makes it the secret weapon of high-level engineers and mixers
  • Essential switches, such as Input Gain, THD, and Comp 1/Comp 2/Limit
  • Plug-in exclusive features, such as Mid/Side Processing, External Sidechain, and Link Channels
  • Also included in Zener-Bender. Learn more
  • Console 1-ready: can be used within the Console 1 mixing ecosystem.

Maximal 2

Limiter by Venomode

Images

Description

Maximal 2 is an advanced loudness maximiser that allows you to get the most out of your sound.

Features

  • Advanced Detection

  • Maximal 2 features an advanced lookahead detection algorithm. Instead of just delaying the signal like some of the others do, it uses a special algorithm to react to the incoming audio naturally before it happens.

  • The intelligent release uses a multi-stage envelope for smoothly controlling the limiting. This, along with the advanced lookahead, helps you escape the dreaded 'pumping' you can get with other limiters.

  • Juicy Analogue Warmth

  • Not only can you get crystal-clear limiting using Maximal 2, but there are some goodies for injecting some warmth into your track - The 'Tape' mode adds some warm saturation, modelled on the old tape-machines of the past, without the unwanted artefacts such as drift, wow or flutter.

  • The 'Tube' mode is slightly more boisterous, adding a bit of grit, while the 'Loud' mode takes the transparent limiter and adds in a variable state soft-clipper before the limiter, letting you squeeze a few extra dB out, while still keeping the sound clean.

  • 8x Oversampling

  • To help limit aliasing, and stop inter-sample peaks, Maximal 2 offers up to 8x oversampling. The oversampling algorithm cleanly upsamples the signal before applying the limiting, before cleanly bringing the sample rate back to the original.

  • Maximal is a loudness maximiser, featuring an advanced lookahead peak limiter and analogue modelled saturation. The multi-stage limiter section features next-level lookahead, automatic makeup gain, and adaptive and responsive release. This plugin will smoothly limit any peaks in the audio, and automatically increase the overall level. The analogue modelled tape and tube saturation modes encompass all the best parts of the analogue world, without all the bad parts - such as high-frequency roll-off, hiss, wow and flutter.

  • Using adaptive release technology, you can simply tell Maximal 2 whether you want the limiter to be fast and loud, or slow and transparent, and it will do what's needed inside. You can use Maximal 2 to catch rampant peaks in an audio recording, or you can use it to make your track phat and loud - it's up to you how you push it.

Little Clipper

Limiter by Boz Digital Labs

Images

Description

Boz Digital Clipper Series

The essential clipper. Little Clipper includes all the features you need from a clipper and lays it out in a way that makes it simple to dial in.

Why make a clipper when there are already so many?

Little Clipper is the lighter, smaller version of its big brother (Big Clipper). Clipping is one of the more misunderstood processes in mixing. When used correctly, it can make mixing easier. Things just fall into place better and dynamics stay under control.  As it is with all effects, however, it’s easy to overdo. Little Clipper makes it easy to dial in with clear meters that show you how much clipping is occurring, and all the essential features that let you dial in your clipping to be just the right amount.

Hard/Soft Clipping

Sometimes you need crisp hard clipping, sometimes you need smoother soft clipping. Little Clipper lets you choose easily how hard you want your clipping to be.

Stereo or Mid/Side

Little Clipper lets you choose your channel configuration for stereo tracks. We have found that clipping often sounds much more natural in Mid/Side mode on stereo buses. It even lets you clip only the mid or side channels without affecting the other, giving you even more control over your clipping.

I thought clipping was bad. Why would I do it on purpose?

Just like all effects, clipping is bad when you do it accidentally. When used purposefully, it’s a powerful tool that can be used to increase your apparent dynamics without making your peaks jump all over the place. It’s especially powerful on drums. Just a little bit of clipping your snare before your compressor will give your compressor much more natural sounding, predictable results.

Features

  • Hard/Soft Clipping
  • Intuitive Input Gain and Ceiling controls
  • Mix knob for blending your dry sound back in
  • Multiple stereo configurations for clipping stereo buses

Big Clipper

Limiter by Boz Digital Labs

Images

Description

Boz Digital Clipper Series

Big Clipper is what you get when you take a clipper and inject it with growth hormones, and then add a little extra MSG on top.

Clipping is a great way to transparently control the peaks of your tracks. When done subtly, clipping will make compressors and reverb sound more natural down the line, and give your mix an overall cohesive feel. But clippers have one glaring issue: They really fall apart when you push them too hard. There seems to be a very thin line between adding cohesion and breaking apart into a distorted mess. That’s where Big Clipper comes in. Big Clipper gives you the controls to be able to push it hard without breaking apart. Whether you need subtle clipping or heavy overdrive, Big Clipper handles it with ease.

Is it a Clipper or a Limiter?

It’s both! And you get to control how to combine them together.

Big Clipper lets you blend the limiter and the clipper in 4 different ways (2 crossover modes, Blend Mode, and Serial Mode) giving you quick access to all sorts of clipping flavours.

Frequency Sensitivity

This is an incredibly powerful set of controls. It looks like an EQ, but instead of being a simple EQ, it adjusts the sensitivity the clipper has to the different frequencies. So if you want to distort the low end less, just turn down the sensitivity on the low end.

Features

  • Hybrid Clipper/Limiter
  • 4 Blending modes
  • Frequency sensitivity control

ML8000 Advanced Limiter Native

Limiter by McDSP

Images

Description

Please Note: This product is the Native version. You can purchase the HD version HERE.

Features

  • Brick wall look-ahead limiter
  • Multi-stage and multi-band peak detection and limiting
  • Unique limiter Knee, Mode, and Focus controls
  • Snap function instantly sets multi-band thresholds to signal levels
  • Double precision processing
  • Low latency

The Wall

Limiter by Boz Digital Labs

Images

Description

Why does the world need another limiter?

The Wall is is a brick wall limiter designed with one thing in mind: Make your mixes loud without screwing up your mix. No matter what side of the loudness wars you’ve decided to plant yourself on, the need to make mixes loud for clients isn’t going away any time soon. Sending your clients home with a mix that is just as loud as the professional mixes they are used to hearing is an important part of any mixing engineer’s job.

But nothing drives me more insane than listening to all my hard work turn to garbage when pushing the mix loud. That’s why we made this plugin. We wanted a mastering limiter that lets you push your mixes loud and still keep the punch in your drums and keep your tonality intact.

There are many Limiters out there, and one of the things that we learned while making this is that a good limiting algorithm is complicated. There are tons of steps involved in transparently limiting music and most of the parameters are completely non-intuitive. When I’m mastering my music, I don’t want to think about release and attack times, lookahead times, window shapes, multiband crossover frequencies, etc. but I want to dial in the limiter to match the music I’m sending it.

So we took over 30 parameters and combined them into a very simple and intuitive “Flavor” control. It really couldn’t be easier to use. You set your level, then adjust the flavor until it sounds good with your song. And if that’s not enough, The Wall comes with 3 completely different limiting algorithms that you can switch through very quickly. It’s just so easy to use.

Features

  • Dual Limiting Modes
  • Huge variety of styles with simple interface
  • Sanity Check normalizes your level so you can compare your original sound with the compressed sound without introducing a level change.
  • Up to 8x oversampling to prevent intersample peaks.
  • Dithering, because… Why not?

Devil-Loc Deluxe

Limiter by Soundtoys

Images

Description

Audio Level Destroyer

A crushing, pounding, aggressive compressor for massive drums. Our spin on an old classic.

To take things beyond the hardware that inspired it and give you even more creative flexibility, we’ve created a deluxe version of the Devil-Loc plug-in, Devil-Loc Deluxe. The Deluxe version adds a “Darkness” control for tone, switchable slow or fast release times and a mix knob so you can mix your dry signal back in right on the front panel.

The addition of these controls opens up the sonic palette immensely. Dark thundering drums, to driven lo-fi loops, and more, and the mix control saves all that tedious routing and lets you automate mix to keep the Devil from taking over the soul of your tracks. This time, evil is good.

A Bit of History

The original Shure Level-Loc from the 1960s was a brick wall limiter designed to be used in public address systems. Its extreme compression and gritty sound eventually became a secret weapon of some well-known and very creative engineers and producers.

It’s an extreme effect and can create huge sounds with drums and room mics, and in small amounts can add sizzle to things like vocals or acoustic guitar.

The controls were very simple, with only a switch for three “distance” settings based on how far from the mic you were. The M62V upped the control a bit by adding an input level knob.

The reason it became famous was largely thanks to Soundtoys user Tchad Blake and his desire to push, abuse, and do deliciously evil things to his tracks. He discovered that the Level-Loc was gritty, dirty, and unusual. The kind of compression that made drums gigantic and nasty – which is a good thing.

Devil-Loc Deluxe also includes Devil-Loc. It may be little with just two knobs but it is one seriously big sound.

Features

  • Extreme compression effect creates huge drum sounds like nothing else
  • Mix knob allows you to dial in just the right amount of grit and ambience
  • Darkness control lets you shape the tone and roll off crunchy highs for a warmer sound
  • Selectable fast and slow release times for added variety and control

Maximus

Limiter by Image Line

Images

Description

Maximus will deliver transparent peak limiting and volume maximization without coloration of the processed sound. However, Maximus is much more than a pristine quality Mastering Maximizer, it's also a Compressor, Limiter, Noise Gate, Expander, Ducker and De-esser. Maximus excels equally well as a final mastering plugin or as a per-track effect. Lock and load.

Heavy Weaponry for the Loudness War.....

Maximus will quickly become one of the most rewarding tools in your recording and mixing arsenal. Maximus applies level maximization via compression and/or limiting across three frequency bands, to enhance and improve the final track.

Used sparingly, Maximus raises the volume of the track without introducing unwanted distortion and ensures that the quieter parts, often lost in the mix, are more easily heard.

More Presence....

Maximus offers 4 user definable compression curves and complete visual analysis of the sound as it is processed. Bass can be increased and higher frequencies sharpened. Selected elements of a mix, instruments or vocals for example, or complete tracks are given a professionally mastered 'presence'.

Features

  • 3 independent user-definable Low Mid High (LMH) frequency bands.
  • Custom look-ahead for the LMH bands and Master compression envelopes.
  • 4 compressors/limiter: One per LMH band plus a Master wide band compressor/limiter.
  • Each compressor has an infinitely variable, multipoint compression curve.
  • Create any shaped knee or special effects (limiting, compression, gating or expansion)
  • Fully configurable. Any of the LMH or Master compressors can be bypassed to configure Maximus to suit any compression task.
  • Two saturation types per LMH & Master bands, with independent gain.
  • Mixing between the frequency dependent compressors and the master, perfect for parallel & NY-style compression.
  • 4 Independent stereo separation control per band.
